Lessons, courses and equipment rental
It’s not the wind that decides where to go – it’s you who learns to steer it
Circolo Velico Costa Est offers tailored lessons and structured courses in windsurfing, wing surfing, wing foiling, SUP and wave surfing. Activities are open to both beginners and those looking to improve their technique, with programmes designed for every skill level.
ACSI and FIV certified instructors provide modern equipment and ongoing support, both on the water and from the boat, ensuring a safe and engaging learning experience.
From single lessons to full courses and advanced clinics with Olympian Federico Esposito, each session is designed to help you grow with confidence.
Those wishing to practise independently can take advantage of the equipment rental service, with supervision always available.
Windsurf
Windsurfing combines balance, technique and wind control. At Circolo Velico Costa Est, you can learn or refine your skills through individual lessons and structured courses.
The programmes are suitable for both first-time riders and those looking to improve their control and confidence.
For beginners, the goal is to build a foundation in windsurfing and learn how to manage wind direction and power.
More experienced riders can work on technique and gain confidence in a range of weather conditions.
Each lesson lasts 1 hour and is open to both children and adults from age 6.
The full course includes 5 lessons, following a progressive approach to help participants become more independent and safe on the water.
SUP
SUP (Stand Up Paddle) is the perfect sport for anyone wanting to connect with the sea, combining balance and smooth movement. Lessons are tailored to all ages and skill levels, with a playful approach for younger children and technical sessions for adults.
Starting from age 4, children are introduced to SUP through a structured path of two 30-minute sessions, turning learning into a fun water experience.
For teens and adults, 1-hour lessons help develop technique and endurance.
The full course includes 3 lessons, ideal for building control and confidence on the board.
Wing Surf
Wing surfing is the perfect way to prepare for wing foiling, by learning to handle the wing independently from the board. Lessons focus on wing control and wind awareness—two essential skills before progressing to foiling.
Each session lasts 1 hour and is open to anyone curious to try the sport.
For a more in-depth experience, the 3-lesson course builds confidence and coordination.
Wing Foil
Wing foiling is the next step after wing surfing, adding the foil element to lift you above the water. This discipline requires technique, balance and precise control of the wing, so each lesson is designed to support gradual progression.
Sessions last 1 hour and are suitable for both beginners and advanced riders.
The full course includes 5 lessons, helping improve stability, direction control and confidence with the foil.
Wave Surfing
Waves require both respect and understanding. That’s why each surf lesson is adapted to the student’s level and the current sea conditions. The goal is to provide a solid foundation for beginners and help experienced surfers refine their skills.
Sessions last 1 hour and are scheduled according to the sea conditions, ensuring a safe and effective learning environment.
Training and clinics with Federico Esposito
For those looking to take their skills to the next level, Circolo Velico Costa Est offers the chance to join individual or group clinics with Federico Esposito, Olympic windsurfer and coach of international athletes.
These clinics focus on advanced techniques in windsurfing, wing foiling and SUP, with tailor-made programmes based on each student’s personal goals.
A unique opportunity to learn from a world-class professional.
Equipment rental with supervision
If you want to train independently after a course or set of lessons, Circolo Velico Costa Est offers a supervised rental service.
This option allows you to rent windsurfing gear, SUPs and wing foils, while still benefiting from guidance and support from an assistant instructor—ensuring a safe and supported experience on the water.
Olympian Federico Esposito
Olympic talent on the water – for training with a five-ring spirit
Since 2017, Circolo Velico Costa Est has been actively involved in the training of athletes for international competitions. Federico Esposito, Olympic windsurfer at London 2012 and international-level coach, has supported the development of top athletes, helping them reach the Olympic stage.
His technical skills and deep knowledge of wind and currents have made him a respected figure in the sport. He has coached Blanca Manchón, a Spanish athlete who competed at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and Luuc Van Opzeeland, who won a bronze medal in windsurf foil at the Paris 2024 Games.
In addition to his competition achievements, Federico is currently head coach of the Italian national SUP team, continuing to share his method with a new generation of athletes.
Training with Federico means working through a comprehensive approach to sea dynamics, technical refinement, and the mental and physical preparation required for competition. His personalised clinics allow athletes to focus on specific aspects of their discipline, using methods shaped by direct Olympic experience.
Alongside its competitive work, the Circolo collaborates with Isico Italia, offering young people with spinal conditions the chance to explore water sports. Each session is tailored to their needs, making use of the water’s natural support to encourage movement and improve coordination.
The Team
The strength of the group: the value of those who live the Circolo every day
Circolo Velico Costa Est has been active since 2004 in the Gulf of Follonica, within the Sterpaia Nature Park.
In 2013, the arrival of Federico Esposito as coach marked a new chapter of growth, alongside Giulia Paolillo and Mattia Seravalle.
“We’re a young, dynamic team, brought together by a shared passion. Federico, with his experience as an Olympic athlete and coach, knows how to share his knowledge with ease — involving everyone, from children to adults. Having him on our team is a unique opportunity for anyone who truly wants to understand what it means to sail.”
In 2024, under Federico’s guidance, Luuc Van Opzeeland won an Olympic bronze medal, and the entire Circolo followed the final with the energy of people who share a genuine passion.
“Watching that race together, on the beach, brought us even closer. Seeing Federico on the sidelines, knowing how much work had gone into it, made the victory feel even more special.”
Giulia Paolillo, Olympic sailing team athlete and instructor, coordinates club activities and manages logistics.
“There’s always something to do — welcoming new students or organising training sessions. Our goal is to create a space where everyone feels at ease, whether they’re just starting out or aiming to improve.”
Mattia Seravalle, windsurf and SUP instructor, grew up at the Circolo and has become a key figure.
Now 24, he’s a point of reference for newcomers to water sports, a role model for younger athletes, and a steady presence in training.
The team also includes Jacopo and Guglielmo, both 17, assistant instructors and athletes who have found more than a school — a path of personal growth.
“We started with windsurfing, discovered racing, and now train in wing foil. We’ve grown up with the Circolo, and now we’re passing on that same passion to the next generation.”
A board is waiting for you. Book your lesson now and join Federico, Giulia and their team out on the water!
