Upon arrival at Il Giardino Apartments in Riparbella (PI), you find yourself surrounded by the beauty of the Tuscan landscape, with hills, forests, and pristine nature. This property is perfect for those looking for a holiday that combines sports, outdoor activities, and tranquillity, while being conveniently located near the major attractions of the Val di Cecina and the Etruscan Coast.
We meet Katia, who welcomes us with a warm smile and invites us to sit at one of the outdoor tables under a huge and beautiful fig tree, just sprouting its first buds.
Can you describe your property? How many apartments do you manage?
“Il Giardino Apartments are located within the Regional Agricultural and Forestry Estate ‘Giardino Scornabecchi’. We offer four apartments that can accommodate up to 14 guests in total:
- he most spacious apartment, on the first floor, covers approximately 65 sqm and features two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a combined kitchen/living room with 4 additional beds.
- Still, on the first floor, there is a second apartment with 6 beds, measuring about 50 sqm. This apartment features two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a combined kitchen and living room.
- On the ground floor, there are two smaller flats, each with two beds: The first measures 37 sqm and includes a bedroom, bathroom, and a combined kitchen/living room.
- The second is a studio flat with a kitchenette, sleeping area, and bathroom.
All apartments are equipped with bed linen, crockery, pots, and heating for the colder months. Although there is currently no Wi-Fi, guests can find a connection with the surrounding nature by immersing themselves in the forest right in front of the property.”

“First and foremost, just a few dozen metres from the apartments, you’ll find “Il Giardino Sospeso,” a beautiful and adventurous Adventure Park, perfect for children and adults alike, with courses of varying difficulty to entertain the whole family on holiday in Tuscany.
Furthermore, this is the starting point for cycling and trekking excursions, which you can do on your own or with an organized group, thanks to a sports association dedicated to helping tourists and locals discover the wonders of the Forest Park.
It’s also possible to rent mountain bikes and e-bikes to reach Riparbella, Castellina M.ma, Santa Luce, Volterra, the seaside resorts of Cecina and Vada, and the entire Val di Cecina and Etruscan Coast area. Just a few steps from us, there is also a fitness and warm-up area for pre-excursion stretching.“
Moving a few kilometres away, are there other sports available for those on holiday?
“Just a few minutes away there is a riding school for horseback excursions, and in the nearby “Borgo San Pecoraio” Village, both the swimming pool and tennis courts are open to non-guests for a fee. In the municipality of Cecina, there are Tennis and Padel clubs, reachable in under 20 minutes, and then there’s the sea, where you can practice many water sports like SUP, Wing-foil, Windsurfing, and Kite-Surfing.“

Could you tell us how far some of the key historical and cultural attractions are?
“With pleasure. Our holiday home is ideal for those who are environmentally conscious and desire a low-impact green holiday. Just a few hundred metres from us, there’s a convenient bus stop that will get you to the Cecina train station in minutes.
- For those here for water sports or wanting a swim between trekking or e-bike excursions, the seaside towns of Cecina Mare, Le Gorette, Vada, and the famous White Beaches are less than 10 km away.
- The villages of Montescudaio, Guardistallo, Riparbella, Castellina M.ma, and Casale M.mo are between 10 and 15 km away, making them easily accessible for both hikers and cycle tourists. Santa Luce, where you can witness the incredible blooming of lavender fields between June and July, is 25 km away.
- For the more adventurous and well-trained, the Etruscan city of Volterra (38 km) and Sassetta with its famous thermal baths (34 km) are relatively close and can be reached in under 2 hours by bike.
- By renting an e-bike, you can consider covering the 44 km to the Gulf of Baratti and Populonia, the 48 km to Suvereto, and the 52 km to Piombino. There, in addition to a wonderful historic centre and a stunning view of Elba Island from a seaside piazza that is one-of-a-kind in Italy, you can board a ferry with your bike to visit the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago.”

“Inside the Giardino Scornabecchi Forest Park, you’ll find the “L’Osteria del Cinghiale” restaurant. It’s open daily from mid-June through summer and on weekends for the rest of the year, offering typical Tuscan land and sea cuisine, as well as bar service from 10:00 a.m.
Just 200 metres away, you can buy freshly milked milk and ultra-fresh cheese at La Fattoria di Cecilia (Cecilia’s Farm)—an authentic and delicious experience for the whole family. The municipality of Riparbella is also renowned for its wineries (La Regola, Caia Rossa, Prima Pietra, Due Mani, and QuerciaLuc PaKravan Papi, to name just a few), where you can taste exceptional wines and typical Tuscan products.
In fact, the town centre hosts the RipaWine festival every year, where music, wine, and good food take centre stage. It’s an unmissable opportunity to discover and savour local products and enjoy an evening of cheerfulness and conviviality.”
What about children? Is there anything special for them?
Just 50 metres from the apartments is the Il Giardino Sospeso Adventure Park. Suspension, Tibetan, and Nepalese bridges, rope ladders, walkways on swinging logs, Tarzan swings, and zip lines: 6 different courses, from the easiest (Green), suitable for kids and adults over 130 cm tall, with a maximum height of 3.5 metres, to the most difficult (Red), which reaches up to 10 metres high!
Il Giardino Sospeso is open daily from June until mid-September, with special openings throughout the year (find the complete calendar here).
Nearby, you’ll also find BiodiverCity, a non-profit association offering children, adults, and people with disabilities the opportunity to care for and interact with their resident animals.
It’s an educational and fun experience for the little ones that helps nurture their love for nature and respect for animals.
