It is with great enthusiasm that we present Il Piaggione Farmhouse of Venturina Terme on Vacanze Sportive Toscana. A haven of peace immersed in nature, just a stone’s throw from the sea and the thermal baths; the perfect starting point for those who want a dynamic holiday. These are the places and these are the people we love to talk about, where a holiday, from a mere stay, becomes an experience of familial hospitality.
We are pleased to speak with Francesco and Federico, the twins who have taken over the reins from their parents in running the farmhouse, located in the beautiful countryside of Campiglia Marittima.

Hello guys, tell us about how and by whom the idea of this wonderful place was conceived.
“Hello! It all began when our father, in the 1990s, after studying architecture and gaining significant experience in the field, chose to purchase this farmhouse dating back to the early 20th century. With great love, as one gives to children, he transformed it while preserving the traditional architecture of Alta Maremma, respecting the original essence of the place.
In 1997, we opened the doors of Il Piaggione Farmhouse, and a few years ago, we took the helm, continuing with pride the work started by our parents, who dedicated much of their lives to this place.
Describe the surroundings where the facility is located and what types of apartments you offer your guests.
“Our facility operates seasonally; we open from April to October. We are in open countryside, in a context of absolute tranquility and relaxation. The extensive outdoor spaces, vegetation, and gardens are ideal for those who want to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city. But at the same time, we are just a few minutes from the center of Venturina Terme, where all services are available, easily reachable both on foot and by bicycle.
We provide ample covered parking and inside the farmhouse, guests will also find a restaurant with typical Tuscan cuisine; we also produce our own Extra Virgin Olive Oil, which can be purchased to take home a memento of this land.
In the farmhouse, we have created 9 apartments of different sizes, designed to offer comfort and hospitality. There are about 30 beds in total, to accommodate families and large groups; 2 of the accommodations are accessible to guests with reduced mobility to ensure a barrier-free holiday:
- OLEANDRO: a cozy three-room apartment on the first floor with a terrace, perfect for 4 people
- TIGLIO: a spacious four-room apartment on the first floor with a terrace, ideal for 6 guests
- QUERCIA E CORBEZZOLO: two three-room apartments on the first floor that accommodate 5 and 4 people respectively
- NOCE, OLIVO e CEDRO: spacious three-room apartments with 4 beds, two on the ground floor and one on the first floor
- NESPOLO e ARANCIO: two two-room apartments on the ground floor ideal for couples looking for a romantic getaway

“From here, all the tourist, recreational, and historical-cultural centers of interest in the Val di Cornia are easily accessible by bike or on foot:
- Venturina Thermal Baths are 2 km away, 7 minutes by bike and half an hour on foot.
- Rimigliano Coastal Park, with its wide sandy beaches, beautiful sea, and vast adjacent pine forest, is about 5 km away, 15 minutes by bike and less than 1 hour on foot.
- Campiglia Marittima, one of Italy’s most beautiful villages, is 5 km away and can be reached in about 30 minutes by bicycle and in 1 hour and 15 minutes on foot.
- Suvereto, a city of wine, oil, and recognized as a slow city, is 12 km away and takes 40 minutes by bike.
- San Vincenzo, with its sandy beach and beautiful sea, is about 8 km away, 25 minutes by bike, but easily reachable in less than 2 hours for those who like walking.
- The Gulf of Baratti and Populonia, famous for its wild nature, clear sea, and parks where one can explore the Etruscan history of Val di Cornia, is 11 km away and about 30 minutes by bike.
- Piombino, with views over the Island of Elba and the most beautiful vista of all the islands in the Tuscan Archipelago from the coast, is 18 km away and less than 1 hour by bike.
- Sterpaia Coastal Park, on the east coast forming the Gulf of Follonica, has been a blue flag area since 2008, features 8 km of beach, dune areas, and forests, is 17 km away and 50 minutes by bike.
- Bolgheri, famous for its renowned wines and the beautiful avenue of cypresses that precedes it, an inspiration for Giosuè Carducci’s poem “Davanti San Guido”, is about 30 km away and a 1.5-hour bike ride.
- Castagneto Carducci, a small village nestled on a hill dominated by the Castle of the Gherardesca Counts, is 22 km away and 1 hour and 12 minutes if one chooses to get there by bike.

“In our property, there is a small soccer field for games among guests, while our garden is ideal for holistic practices or for a muscle awakening in the morning. The surrounding area offers numerous opportunities for those seeking a holiday for psycho-physical well-being.
Just a short distance away, we can immerse ourselves in the warm waters of the Venturina Thermal Baths and the Calidario Thermal Centre. Additionally, the natural thermal baths nestled in the woods of Sassetta are only 30 minutes away by car.
We are situated in a corner of paradise that invites long walks in the quiet of nature and excursions by bike and trekking. The municipalities of Campiglia Marittima, Piombino, San Vincenzo, and Suvereto, just to name the nearest, hide kilometers of trails through woods and Mediterranean scrub, with breathtaking views of the Tuscan Archipelago. We offer guides and maps to help our guests choose the best experience and collaborate with a bike rental service that delivers directly to the farmhouse.
Nearby, there are riding stables for those who love horseback riding, and of course, there are plenty of beach sports. On the beaches of Baratti, in the coastal parks of Rimigliano and Sterpaia, and along the shores of the entire Val di Cornia and the Etruscan Coast, it is possible to surf, wind-surf, kite-surf, SUP, and canoe. Those who want to delve deeper into water sports can rely on sailing schools and skilled instructors. For diving and snorkeling enthusiasts, Baratti Diving opens the doors to the underwater world with adventures along the entire coast, Elba Island, and the islets of Palmaiola and Cerboli.
In Venturina, there are sports centres, gyms, tennis, and padel clubs. And throughout the year, the area is alive with events: from gastronomic treks like the sCampigliata, to sports competitions such as Corriamo il Parco della Sterpaia.“

The gastronomic offerings of the Etruscan Coast are second to none: excellent restaurants, taverns, renowned wineries, and farms await those who love good food. The region thrives on festivals and fairs where you can taste typical dishes and fine wines in a festive atmosphere.
For our part, we currently offer visits and tastings at Tenuta Caccia al Piano in Bolgheri, an ancient property of the Della Gherardesca family since 1868, where guests can discover its prestigious white, red, and rosé wines, as well as extra virgin olive oil.
For live music lovers, Lago Verde, less than 4 km away, offers evenings of great music in the Rimigliano Park. Meanwhile, for an aperitif with a DJ set, Nano Verde in the Sterpaia Park is a must-visit.

Sbagliando strada, l’abbiamo trovato per caso perché c’era una lavagnetta scritta a mano sulla strada.
Tutto perfetto, i proprietari molto gentili ti mettono subito a tuo agio, cibo e vino buonissimi, il menù non è il solito che si trova un po’ ovunque nei dintorni perciò vale la pena provarci.
Guancia di manzo davvero ottima, patate al forno deliziose e porzioni anche generose rispetto alla media.
Super consigliato!
Non è presente l'aria condizionata ma hanno un metodo di irrigazione del tetto (con recupero dell'acqua quindi senza sprechi) che è veramente efficiente. Unica pecca forse è la presenza di un bagno solo ma per una settimana non è stato assolutamente un problema (eravamo in 6).

Le camere sono spaziose e riservate, all'interno di una struttura immersa nello splendore del verde toscano. Pulizia ed igiene impeccabili.
Il personale cortese e ben preparato ci ha fatto sentire molto più che a casa.
Il ristorante propone un menù vario e con prodotti locali, un'interessante offerta con piatti per tutti i gusti dei quali molti anche vegetariani. Tutto squisito e impiattamento da ristorante stellato.
La nostra esperienza è stata in coppia ma abbiamo incontrato famiglie in struttura e lo trovo molto adatto anche per i più piccoli.
Un plauso in particolare al titolare, Francesco, per la sua cortesia e preparazione.
Tutto davvero molto bello.
Torneremo sicuramente.
Soprattutto parlando del ristorante, il cibo è semplicemente eccezionale e il servizio è eccellente. L'ambiente (tavoli sistemati in uno scenario molto romantico di un giardino toscano) invita ad aprire l'appetito verso un insieme di sapori sorprendenti e creativi attentamente messi insieme… Bravo, semplicemente bravo!
Grande cura nei sapori e nella presentazione dei piatti servizio ottimi e ben curato.
Sicuramente da ritornarci
Abbiamo cenato all'estero, il giardino e molto curato e romantico. Il servizio sempre cortese e mai invadente, per non parlare della cucina...piatti a mio parere studiati e estremamente equilibrati, risulta evidente la passione di TUTTI coloro che lavorano in questo agriturismo.
Da appassionata di buon cibo e vino vi assicuro che le proposte che troverete nel menu non avranno niente da invidiare a ristoranti stellati.
Estremamente consigliato, spero anche io di tornare al più presto.
Decisamente un'esperienza da provare.
